Shoshone Falls on the Snake River, northeast of Twin Falls, at low flow in August. The falls are 212 feet (65 m) high, 45 feet (14 m) higher than Niagara Falls. The falls and canyon were carved about 15 thousand years ago during the cataclysmic flood that drained glacial Lake Bonneville, releasing 1100 cubic miles (4600 km3) of water over a period of weeks.
