August 6 Sonoma State University to Elko NV (516/7763 mi) - Starting my journey home, I head in the general direction of Sturgis, South Dakota. Having ridden through Nevada on a previous journey, I ride quickly, and do a 516 mile (831 km) run over the Sierra Nevada Range to Elko, Nevada. This is historic US 40 and the Rainbow Bridge, the main route over Donner Summit prior to the opening of I 80 in 1964.
