The 26,372 foot (8,038 m) long Mackinac Bridge, opened in 1957, leads to the Upper Peninsula, or UP, of Michigan. It is a memorable ride in any vehicle, the Bridge Authority provides a free service for drivers who are uncomfortable driving across it, and wish to have their cars or motorcycles driven across. The western segment of U.S. Route 2, The Highline, which skirts below the Canadian border, begins here, and will be my road for the next 1500 miles to Montana.
