Day 11 - San Joaquin River to Sapphire Lake (11 mi, 2490 ft relief). This day has a long ascent in the morning, from the San Joaquin River to Evolution Valley, and another in the afternoon, to Evolution Basin. The long ascent was in preparation for the climb to Muir Pass (11991 ft) on the following day. Metamorphised lapilli tuff, probably part of the volcanic carapace.
