Steven Haynes, the director of the Maine Granite Industry Museum and Historical Society. He is also the curator, preparator, historian, and archivist. We swap stories about granite for hours. The map at upper right shows the locations of historic quarries on Mount Desert Island. On the table are a suite of samples he cut for me from the collection. I load up my saddlebags with the precious samples, and later return the favor with thin sections and microphotographs.
