Schoodic Peninsula is in bloom with showy purple irises. The peninsula is part of Acadia National Park, but this beautiful section on the mainland has many fewer visitors. Mount Desert Island is visibile across Frenchman Bay, named for Samuel de Champlain, the French explorer who visited the area in 1604.
