1946 Indian Chief (USA). 74 cu. in. (1210 cc) air-cooled 42 degree V-twin four stroke engine, three speed tranmission with optional four speed or reverse. Top speed 85 mph. This was the only Indian model in production after World War II, as Dupont was interested in selling the company, and only continued the most popular model. The Indian's rear sprung frame and skirted fenders were an advantage over rival Harley Davidson, although Indian riders were divided over the fenders.
