July 14 Big Sur - South of Santa Cruz the scenic Pacific Coast Highway (PCH or CA 1) crosses Bixby Bridge, one of the tallest single-span concrete bridges in the world. Opened in 1932, it allowed winter access to Big Sur as the Old Coast Road was often impassible.
