Death Valley 2006

Previous | Next | Index

Badwater turtleback. This is one of a series of remarkable structures in Death Valley referred to as "turtlebacks". The light colored veneer of Tertiary rock in the middle left sits on much older Precambrian rocks along an exposed fault surface. These features record major crustal extension along crustal scale faults.
